Every month we will highlight a great musician/artist here in Southern California.. We’ll introduce you to the performers, show you where to buy their music, and tell you where they’re playing next.

For our first SoCal Certified artist, we’d thought we’d select one of our personal favorites. A group that’s music has accompanied us for months, on our long hours, Saturdays and late night working on prep for the launch of this site. It was only fair we pay tribute to Fortunate Youth — with their mellow vibe we’ve been jamming to these reggae tunes while we assemble our first issue.

A combination of South Bay reggae musicians from different bands, Fortunate Youth, has put together a 6-piece masterpiece. Fortunate Youth’s sound is a mix of rootsy vibes, boisterous guitar solos, unique bass lines with a one-of-a-kind voice. Their high energy, positive stage presence and rare sound separate them from any other reggae band.

Fortunate Youth has reached the attention of many reggae listeners and have achieved high status in the reggae genre. At the time of releasing their album “Irie State Of Mind” in 2011, they quickly reached the top of iTunes Reggae Charts at #2 and landed the #13 position on Billboard Top 100 Reggae Albums. The early success of Fortunate Youth has spread their music around to music lovers nationwide.
