The month of November could be seen as the month of giving because of Thanksgiving and the start of the holiday season.

For the Heart of Downtown Co Op, giving never ends.

Heart of Downtown Co Op is a food pantry in Downtown Fullerton. The organization was started by Pastor Bryan Maxwell from the Wilshire Avenue Community Church, and Jamie, a full-time worker and volunteer coordinator for the Heart of Downtown. The food pantry has expanded since it first began and has surpassed the scale of a usual food pantry. Bryan and Jamie decided on Fullerton to be the location of their organization because of the high rate of homeless in the city.

Heart of Downtown opens its food pantry every other Sunday. Every Friday they have a “BackPack” program with the Orangethrope Elementary where they fill up needy children’s backpack with groceries. The third of Thursday of the month, they drop off groceries at City Lights, a section 8 housing complex in the neighborhood.

The food pantry is just one part of the giving that goes on at Heart of Downtown. They collaborate with four local churches providing weekly hot meals at the Fullerton Train Station. They also assist people in getting a job and obtaining the necessary items that are needed for getting a job including; a form of I.D., phone, etc…

The Heart of Downtown puts in a lot of work to help the homeless and those in-need to get back on their feet and head into a new direction.
