Chances are at some time in your life you’ve made a couple of New Years resolutions — and then broken them. This year, stop the cycle of resolving to make change and then not following through. If your New Years resolutions are to take better care of yourself and get healthy, you will have a much better year if your resolution sticks. Here are tips to help you get started on your New Years resolutions.

EATING BETTER

English muffins for breakfast are a good source of complex carbohydrates, thiamine, niacin and iron. While butter and jelly may taste good on a toasted English muffin, they add little besides fat and sugar in the way of nutrition. Other toppings can provide contrast in flavor and texture as well as additional nutrients.

String cheese for snack is great idea since the cheese is high in protein, it offers a bit of fat and has only 80 calories, plus is an excellent food for children for instance, because they enjoy pulling it apart to eat it, and it makes it easier to get them to eat healthy.

Almonds are another great option for a snack since they are high in monounsaturated fats, the same type of health-promoting fats as are found in olive oil, which have been associated with reduced risk of heart disease. Five large human epidemiological studies, including the Nurses Health Study, the Iowa Health Study, the Adventist Health Study and the Physicians Health Study, all found that nut consumption is linked to a lower risk for heart disease. Researchers who studied data from the Nurses Health Study estimated that substituting nuts for an equivalent amount of carbohydrate in an average diet resulted in a 30% reduction in heart disease risk.

Fruits are one the best options when it comes to snacks, after all they are nature’s wonderful gift to the mankind, they are life-enhancing medicines packed with vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and many phyto-nutrients (Plant derived micronutrients). They are an absolute feast to our sight, not just because of their color and flavor but for their unique nutrition-profile that help human body free from diseases and keep it healthy.

Beef jerky are one of my favorite things to snack on, aside from the great flavor beef jerky is a high-energy snack that can fuel you through a vigorous workout or intense bout of exercise. This snack contains a hefty dose of protein, and supplies certain key vitamins and minerals as well. The meat does have a downside, however, because it can be high in fat and sodium, which decreases its nutritional value.

For lunch Cucumber Tomato Avocado Salad can be a great idea because salads composed from even a few ingredients make a nutrient-rich meal. The greens alone have calcium, iron, potassium and B vitamins. Many salad basics, including tomatoes, sweet peppers and the greens, are chock-full of antioxidants. Add high fiber and low calories into the mix and you can’t go wrong including a salad in your daily diet.

For Dinner we suggest a great dish like the One Pan Balsamic Chicken and Veggies couldn’t get any easier! This is a a 20 minute meal that is sure to please! The flavor is spot on delicious and it has just enough versatility going on to keep things interesting. And the flavor? With the word balsamic in the title you know it’s got to be good right? It is so good! Who knew a dinner that was so easy could taste so incredible?

Protein shakes are very healthy meals and are great to go, they can range from 100% protein to mostly carbohydrates with a little added protein and fat. They come a variety flavors in powder form or in ready-to-drink packages, such as cans or foil packs.

GET ACTIVE

Try Yoga, developed in India thousands of years ago, yoga has become an increasingly popular form of exercise in the United States. Whether yoga’s recent rise in popularity stems from an increase in stress levels or the following of a Hollywood trend, yoga delivers many benefits to those who incorporate it into their everyday lives.

We all know someone who is seemingly obsessed with CrossFit, or has at least attempted it, which is no surprise considering that there are now more than 9,000 CrossFit affiliated gyms worldwide, and the high-intensity conditioning regimen is rapidly acquiring new devotees. As a fellow CrossFitter, I can attest firsthand to the appeal: Every “WOD” (workout of the day) is different, which is great for people who easily get bored with traditional gym equipment. If you often find yourself thinking, “Ugh, another 15 minutes on the elliptical — what could be worse?” then CrossFit might be the workout for you!

GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER

Updating your resume can never hurt anybody plus you never know when an exciting job opportunity will present itself, so it’s always a good idea to have your resume ready to send at a moment’s notice. Another reason for always having an updated resume is that you could lose your job without much or even any notice. Unfortunately, that happens too.

In either case, it makes good sense to have a current copy of your resume available for when you need it.

For those thinking about going back to college, as an adult may have you feeling that you are embarking into uncharted territory, that’s not the case. You are joining legions of other adult students who have gone back to school later in life.
