What a Dish Cafe Bistro; why this lovely cafe in Dana Point may be your new favorite.

There must be some kind of cuisine-oriented success gene. I’m truly in awe as to why a single family can start multiple foodie business ventures and find such clear cut success in each and every one. What a Dish is a Cafe Bistro in the heart of Dana Point and just one more successful addition to the Richey family lineage of fantastic foodie establishments. Founded by Diane Richey and subsequently passed onto her son, Jordan Richey, Cafe Bistro holds a plethora of reasons to name it your new favorite cafe.

Restaurants are notoriously bad business decisions-most fail within the first year, and if even if they weather that storm, 80 percent go under within first five years. That’s a lot of failure. However, it seems to me this kind of restaurateur data has no bearing on What a Dish cafe bistro. The truth of the matter is, Jordan Richey has elevated above these “normal” restaurant principles. Focusing on perfecting the fundamentals-I would gather that What a Dish will be around for a long, long time.

For example, think of your current favorite cafe or bistro. Does it grow it’s own fresh herbs? Probably not. I’m not trying to discourage you from enjoying your current favorite place to sip a coffee or eat a delicious brunch on a beautiful sunday morning- but I’m just stating, I’ve yet to come across such a detailed-oriented and lovingly crafted Cafe Bistro in a long while. It’s the often over-looked details, like fresh herbs, that indicate passion. And damn it, passion tastes delicious.

Diane Richey, deciding she needed to open a test kitchen for her successful catering business, founded What a Dish Cafe Bistro. It’s hours were soon expanded to accommodate a surge of customership. Soon after, Jordan Richey took the reigns of What a Dish Cafe Bistro when he was still in high school, and hasn’t looked back since.

In no way has Diane’s business prosperity been solely limited to catering or cafes. Diane also owns the thriving bakery, also located in the heart of Dana Point, It’s All About the Cake. No stranger to the publicity either-the award-winning bakery has even been featured on the Bravo hit Real Housewives of Orange County. The beloved bakery has had fifteen birthdays and is also family owned and operated.

It’s safe to assume that Jordan Richey may also have his mother’s knack for finding success. The dishes offered at What a Dish are simply delicious. I personally recommend ordering the crab cakes but to save room for their fantastic dessert selection. Everything is prepared with a sense of care and it really shows. Even the benches were hand-crafted by Jordan Richey himself.

The thought put behind the patron’s experience at What a Dish is evident from the second you walk in the door to the last bite of your meal. This level of guest-importance may be just one more detail copied from their expert catering service.

It’s easy to see why so many are talking about this place. They’re definitely feeling the love-as I have a well. Next time you’re in the area, I strongly suggest stopping by What a Dish to find out for yourself-I promise you won’t be disappointed.
