Staycation: Catalina Island

People cross the the whole country just to get to Southern California. Why? Because it’s awesome; there are so many things to do here; in my 23 years of living here I still have not done them all. In this month’s Staycation we are highlighting Catalina Island. Let’s go over a couple epic activities. Activities in Catalina Island There are plenty of activities to do in Catalina Island. Here we highlight our two favorite things to do whenever we visit the island. Flying Fish Voyage Have you guys ever seen someone flying fish? It is something that will instantly mesmerized you. Its pretty much one of those things you have to see to believe. The cruise takes place at night aboard the open-deck Blanche W. The boat has searchlights that are used to spotlight the fish as they glide over the water. It’s a very majestic experience that has to be seen in person. The spotlights are what entice the fish to jump out of the water and put on a show for the people on board the ship. Zipline Eco Tour This is one of the highest rated activities in the island on review sites. There are 5 separate ziplines that drop from 600 feet above sea level all the way down to the beach. This activity is not for the faint of heart, you can reach a max speed of up to 40 mph, so this one is mostly for the adrenaline junkies. The tour begins at the Hogs Back gate which is located high up in the hills near Avalon. Later, you will begin your descent...

Fashion File - Sapphire Diaries - Fall Fashion

Sapphire Diaries - Fall Fashion Southern California has hit record highs in temperature, but fall is here and it is time to take a look at the latest in fall fashion. For this month’s Fashion File segment, we highlight Orange County’s very own Missy Ulmer. Missy lives in Orange County with her husband Chad, stepdaughter Lily, and son Max. Sapphire Diaries is her fashion journal and a peek into her life. In her latest blog post Missy highlights a Black Tulle Skirt. Missy writes: “When I put on this black tulle skirt, I was immediately transformed into a naughty ballerina. LOL. P.S. I am completely delirious right now. This look was actually inspired by an outfit I saw in a catalog at my mom’s house for high-end skiwear. The skirt in the catalog was some crazy price like $5,000 (not even kidding), and I thought it would be fun to recreate the look for less. There are a lot of tulle skirts online, and they are either super expensive or cheapie. I was striving for something in between, and this one is my favorite (and the one I wore in the photos). The mix of a plaid button down and tulle skirt is unexpected and fun, and I paired it with one of my favorite wardrobe basics which are these black booties. And just a side note on the plaid top- it is super comfy and has a relaxed fit where the buttons don’t gape at the bust (pet peeve). It the perfect casual, everyday mama shirt for sure. I can’t wait until the weather cools a bit, and...

Week 1 NFL Schedule

Football season is back! The NFL returns for another dramatic 13 week regular season of American football. Last year, it was the New England Patriots that had the honor of lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy after a controversial post-season. This year will be different in hope of bringing the trophy to California by one of our three Californian football teams. Week 1 begins on Thursday, September 10 2015 as the Pittsburgh Steelers go up against the defending Superbowl Champs the New England Patriots. The game kicks off at 5:30 P.M. Following Thursday’s game the rest of the NFL will play on Sunday, September 13 2015 which includes 13 games and featuring the home openers for the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers. Monday Night Football returns to the nation’s TV sets as the San Francisco 49ers will have their home opener. The San Diego Chargers had a good season in 2014 finishing with a 9-7 record but it was not enough to make the playoffs. The Chargers will host the Detroit Lions, kick off is at 1:05 P.M. in sunny San Diego. The Oakland Raiders will look to improve this season after coming off a 3-13 record last season. In search of improvement they will also work towards making the playoffs since the last time they made an appearance in 2002. The Raiders will take on the Cincinnati Bengals at 1:25 P.M. in Oakland. Lastly, we have the San Francisco 49ers who will invite the Minnesota Vikings to the bay area for the return of Monday Night Football starting at 7:20 P.M. The 49ers had an even season last year, finishing the season...
